Strange Colours
2017, 86’, English
Australia
Milena travels to an opal mining community in the Australian bush to see her estranged, ill father. Lost and alone, she falls into his bewildering world, where men share ideals of freedom and escape from society, and soon he doesn’t want her to leave. Stuck in time, father and daughter try to mend their fractured bond, but their connection is fragile, like the strange gems miners dig for underground.
“This affecting, beautifully judged film – so far, little seen in its homeland – marks the arrival in Australian cinema of a major new talent.”
“A startling kind of phenomenological character study.”
