Alena Lodkina is a Russian-born Australian filmmaker. Strange Colours, the first feature film that she directed and co-wrote, was produced through the Venice Biennale College and premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2017. Petrol, her second feature film as writer/director, premiered at Locarno Film Festival in 2022 and was shown at New Directors/New Films 2023, where it was named ‘a standout’ by The New Yorker. Alena’s fiction and non-fiction writing has appeared in Heat, The Stinging Fly, Senses of Cinema, 4:3 Journal, Meanjin and Fireflies. She was a MacDowell fellow in 2024. She is currently developing her new film, Twice Over, co-written with the Australian novelist Miles Allinson and produced by Neversleep Pictures.
